Current Research Interests
Professor I. Bing Tan is senior staff member at the department of Head and Neck Oncology and Surgery of the Netherlands Cancer Institute and at the department of Otorhinolaryngology of the Academic Medical Centre, both in Amsterdam, the Netherlands.
He was trained as an otorhinolaryngologist at the Free University in Amsterdam by Prof.dr. G.B. Snow. As a fellow of the Netherlands Cancer Foundation he was trained in Head and Neck Surgical Oncology at the Free University, the Netherlands Cancer Institute and the Institute Gustave Roussy in Paris, France.
He is a recognized authority in the field of photodynamic therapy and has a special interest in voice restoration after total laryngectomy.
He is involved in a collaboration program between the Universities of Jakarta and Yogyakarta, Indonesia and the Netherlands Cancer Institute. This program is sponsored by the Dutch Cancer Foundation and the European Community and has resulted in an ASIA/Link grant. Since 2007 he is appointed as a Professor at the Medical Faculty of the Gadjah Mada University in Yogyakarta, Indonesia.
He has written 53 papers, 43 of which can be traced back through Pubmed and he has presented numerous papers at international head and neck conferences, mainly dealing with photodynamic therapy and rehabilitation after total laryngectomy.
