Milind Rajadhyaksha is a mechanical and optical engineer, and directs a confocal microscopy technology research laboratory and translational/clinical imaging laboratories in both Dermatology and Head-and-Neck Surgery at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center. He has 20 years’ expertise, including 5 years’ in industry (start-up company, Lucid Inc.), in developing and commercializing confocal microscopes and translating toward diagnostic imaging applications in skin and head-and-neck cancer. His career mission is to create and translate confocal microscopy technology, including low-cost approaches for use in diverse healthcare settings. Another long-term goal is combining confocal imaging and laser surgery, as a potentially new paradigm for performing diagnosis, pathology, treatment and monitoring directly on the patient, toward improving healthcare with more efficiency and lower cost. He is a co-founder of a start-up company (ColdSteel Laser, LLC.), where he is, once again, combining academic/translational research with commercialization work, to advance imaging-guided laser surgery, initially for head-and-neck and skin cancer markets.
